Re: Surgery - Tarsal Tunnel Release

wendy: the surgery incision for the tarpal tunnel release and plantr release (baxter procedure) are virtually the same incision just a little longer. if the doctor sees any compression on the nerves coming thru the tarsal tunnel and on down to the foot he will attempt to release the compression. the baxter procedure involves removing a small wedge of fascia located over the Baxter nerve whch dr baxter has frequently found as the cause of pain in PF. Dr Baxter reports about a 80% success rate in the Wheeless Orthopedics Manual but my doctor thinks that 70-75% us probably more like it. In my case i put it at 50 % due to the length of time involved and the fact that my symptons are not classic in that I do not have early morining pain or can press and reporduce symptons. Not all doctors will be familiar with the Baxter procedure. He is considered as one of the Plantar Fasciatis Gurus around the country and his methods are used by many orthopedic surgeons. It is is 36 hours and counting and i am more nervous than when i was shot down over north vietnam in 1969. I was practince on crutches today and just getting in the front door (step) was no easy task.Ibuprofen cream instead of pills because of the stomach irritation high doses of pills can cause. This is the only place in the U.S. I've found that sells it.
